One Piece: New collective card game mixes mechanics from Pokémon and Magic

As we recently reported, One Piece will get a brand new collection card game this year. In Japan you can be happy in July, the rest of the world can play the English version at a later date in 2022.

So far we only knew that the artworks will be based on original drawings by Eiichiro Oda. Now Bandai Namco has spread a guide for the game that gives us an insight into the mechanics. (via screen edge)

these are the most important game mechanics of the One Piece card game

Each deck in One Piece has a commander who has its own field on the field. You can call this at any time as long as you can afford it. If this card is defeated, it can be revived at any time, but the costs for this increase every time.

The commander also determines all cards that may be used in a deck. Monkey D. Ruffy, for example, has the color red - accordingly only cards of this color can be used. That sounds very restrictive at first, but we have to wait and see how this mechanics are in practice. The following commanders are available at the start:

  • Monkey D. Ruffy
  • Eustass Kid
  • Sir Crocodile
  • Kaido

An extremely interesting one Piece-RPG also has Bandai Namco in the Macht:
